"I'm not timing your responses"
The other day, I was having a text conversation with an old friend. I can't remember what I was doing when he was texting, likely working on something. I stated something to that effect - apologetically.
No worries at all. I'm not timing your responses.
In that moment, I felt relief. I wanted to be engaged with the exchange. It's also important to me for that person to know that I really care about them and what they have to say. And while I was worried about this, and more, my friend gave me a gentle but direct reminder.
They know. They get it.
People who know you, people you care about, they probably get it too.
